ARTIST STATEMENT

As part of my communication strategy I consciously use the tools of seduction as a hook...to invite the viewer, through the extreme aesthetic pleasure contained in the work, to take a dive into a place beyond conception or beauty. Such a place explores and facilitates a sense of freedom and transcendence within the framework of a highly conditioned society.

The vibrantly coloured transparent paintings, executed on razor sharp edged stainless steel reference the language of the mind and the performance act of painting itself. The most recent work seems to trace a kind of choreography where swathes of bright colour blend and flow freely into each other beneath a gloss surface creating forms whose prescences suggest bridges to the sublime. With the superimposed reflection of the viewer, the painting renders a deliciously enticing skin pregnant with psychological depth that exudes the memory of its own procreation and mirrors the changing nature of our personal realities. Every piece involves innumerable experimentations (whose internal journey is filmed or photographed to eventually become part of a series entitled You Can't Stop The Waves But You Can Learn To Surf) and although each one is swiftly executed, only the few that embody the direct noumenal prescence will be saved, to convey a sort of sensual darshan or spiritual gift. Being preoccupied more with life and its internal language of awareness, than with a comment on our society, the photographs of the 'Vale Da Lua' Series 1 forms the most recent body of work and arrive at a time where I seek to present a more literal reflection of experience that transcends the fluctuating conditions of mind.

These other worldly images explore nature and its liminal threshold and study its/ our potential for transformation from a space beneath the surface or beyond the horizon. The work considers powerfull geological processes taking place over vast periods of time - volcanism, tectonics, glaciation etc and traverse an abstract territory that is more akin to the suraces of the moon. It asks if such fantastic vistas are possible on our host planet, what possible analagous realities do we incorporate in our own being?

Vale Da Lua series 2 takes the landscape's natural abstraction still further, playing with the symetry to reveal archetypes and imagined meanings that serve to inform the power of this space, whether it be terrestrial or inherent to our own consciousness.
